AI/ML has arguably emerged as a key tool in the banking and financial services industry that can significantly improve business performances while also allowing to reduce cost and increase security and robustness of services. However, decision automation using AI/ML comes with its own challenges around explainability, fairness, bias and regulatory compliance. Financial services being a highly regulated industry, this concern has been paramount and resulted in rather cautious adoption of this powerful tool. The technology community has responded to this challenge and there has been a number of recent developments in improving transparency and explainability of automatically developed models. These tools can be used effectively to ensure that AI/ML is used in an ethical and compliant way that reduces the reputation risk to large financial institutions. In this talk, Ranadip and Christos will introduce Google's AI Principles and then run through a number of contrived situations in banking that introduces risks through the use of AI/ML. Then they will demonstrate how specific open source tools that can be used to effectively monitor for and avoid such situations.
