There’s a $1.2 trillion annual gap in financing to meet Paris Climate Accord goals. Larry Fink says climate is the single biggest thematic issue in capital markets.  Pension funds with more than $40 Trillion in AUM have pledged their portfolios will be Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050, and many of them have committed to set 2025 targets on that pathway.  Several dozen of the global commercial and investment banks are have made commitments too, including JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley. But major advances in data and analytics are required to meet the challenges in strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction, credit analysis, security selection, an financial product development.  Allianz, Amazon, Microsoft, and S&P Global have joined as Founding Members of a new Linux Foundation umbrella project LF Climate Finance, and many promising fintech companies want to contribute to building LFCF's OS-Climate platform.  The audience will hear from the head of Amazon’s Sustainability Data Initiative, Red Hat’s VP of Open Source Affairs and former President of OSI Michael Tiemann, and the climate lead for Dutch fintech leader Ortec Finance.  The vision for the OS-Climate architecture, Data Commons, and modeling is generalizable to other pressing environmental and social challenges,  This panel will launch a problem-solving dialogue to figure out how to take the explosive growth of open source among financial sector data scientists and IT professionals, and engage the front office that is unaware or even suspicious of open source.
